The Opportunity
We're looking for a hands-on Production Team Leader to join a growing engineering and manufacturing business in Great Yarmouth.
This isn't a typical production environment. Rather than high-volume, repetitive production lines, you'll be leading a team within a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing operation, producing complex engineered products with long manufacturing cycles. Work moves through multiple processes over several weeks, so you'll need to be comfortable managing production where priorities evolve and workflows aren't always linear.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys bringing structure to complexity.
Working closely with the Production Manager, you'll play a key role in developing people, improving processes and helping shape the future of the production operation. The business is at the beginning of its Lean Manufacturing journey, giving you the opportunity to make a genuine impact by embedding Lean principles, visual management and a culture of continuous improvement across the shop floor.
The Role
You'll lead, coach and develop a team of production employees while ensuring the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of manufacturing activities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and motivating the production team to achieve quality, delivery and performance objectives.
- Planning and coordinating resources to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
- Monitoring production performance, identifying bottlenecks and resolving operational issues.
- Embedding Lean Manufacturing, 5S and visual management throughout the production area.
- Leading continuous improvement initiatives using structured problem-solving techniques such as 5 Whys and root cause analysis.
- Coaching and developing team members through regular one-to-ones, performance reviews and skills development.
- Building accountability, ownership and a positive, high-performing team culture.
- Supporting cross-skilling and capability development to improve team flexibility.
- Monitoring production KPIs and using data to drive improvements in safety, quality, delivery and efficiency.
- Working closely with colleagues across manufacturing and other departments to deliver operational objectives.
About You
You'll be an experienced Production Team Leader, Manufacturing Supervisor or similar people leader who enjoys developing others and driving operational improvement.
You'll also bring:
- Previous leadership experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Strong Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement knowledge.
- Experience implementing Lean tools and improving processes rather than simply maintaining established systems.
- The ability to coach teams through cultural and behavioural change.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with people at all levels.
- Experience using production data and KPIs to improve operational performance.
- A proactive, organised and hands-on approach to leadership.
- The ability to thrive in a dynamic low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.
What's on Offer
- £35,000-£40,000 salary
- Excellent benefits package
- 9-day fortnight with every other Friday off
- Early finish on working Fridays
- Generous holiday allowance with the option to buy additional days
- Health cash plan and wellbeing support
- Pension scheme with employer contributions
- Life assurance
- Retail, leisure and gym discounts
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Ongoing training and development
- Relocation support available
If you're looking for a role where you can influence the way a manufacturing operation develops, build capability within your team and play a key part in embedding Lean and continuous improvement, we'd love to hear from you.
